We went for an evening walk one night and saw deer and lots of beautiful fall leaves. There were lots of old Bristlecone Pine trees there, and I had to have pictures taken with some of them. I like gnarly trees.
We also collected pine nuts while we were there. That was a messy first for all of us. We were ignorant and unprepared, but we got some, and they taste good.
Our second was to the Alpine Lakes. We went about 2 1/2 miles round trip and ended up at Stella Lake. The hike was gorgeous. Brady and Ellie hiked most of the way, but needed a few carries here and there. They took turns being the "trailblazer" and leading the way. On the little bridges we crossed, Ellie was a bunny and had to hop across because the trolls didn't like bunnies. The lake was cold and dirty looking but it was still pretty. Next time we want to take the other fork of the trail and go see a Bristlecone Pine Grove.
The last part of our camping trip was spent in Big Cottonwood Canyon with Bryan's family. It was rainy and cool and the campground was very crowded. Brady and Ellie loved playing with their cousins and painting rocks. The coolest part of that camp was that a moose came right into our camp and we were able to see him quite closely. That was pretty neat!
We finished up with a quiet drive home, not enjoying the BYU game (how could they play so badly?). Brady and Ellie had a great time and were completely exhausted. It was a great family get away.
seriously, you guys always do the funnest things. Brady and Ellie had already told me about their version of camping, and about leamans caves. What sweet kids!
ReplyDeleteLove the pictures on the "tree horse"! Sounds like the kids were quite the troopers on the hike! Sweet moose! Brady looks incredibly uncomfortable sleeping in the car! Fun stuff!
