We went up our canyon again this last Wednesday. We went to a different picnic area called Copley's Cove and then hiked on a trail that followed Chalk Creek down the canyon. The picnic part was good--yummy food, beautiful spot, but the hike was fun and wonderful. We were surrounded by stream, cliffs, spiders, rock slides, and a blue sky with lots of puffy clouds. We crossed a log to get across the stream once and then decided, "What the heck! Water doesn't hurt!" So we waded the stream three more time to cross it. Brady and Ellie, at the first sight of water, thought they had to have their pant legs pulled clear up to their thighs. They looked so funny! We had such a fun time. We just talked and hiked and looked at lots of beautiful things. On our way back, Ellie and I stepped to the side of the trail to look down at the stream, and I almost stepped on a rattle snake. It wasn't too big, probably about 18 inches. It was as scared as we were and just slithered away, so we felt very blessed. Ellie was quite frightened. We are so lucky to live so close to such a neat and pretty place.

Glad you just had a close encounter with that snake. The wading looks wonderful. So nice that you live close to a nice get out there type place! Love the updates.
ReplyDeleteThat looks like so much fun, and you only have a few hours to go. I guess we don't have any excuses. We need to get out more. Maybe seeing all your adventures will motivate me a little more....
ReplyDeleteI'm glad the snake didn't eat you! I thought you were going to say that you fell in the stream...did you?
