Right before we left for a weekend of glorious fun, our camera died. No, we didn't bury it, but we are without photos of the fun stuff we did. Oh, well!
So, as a kid I always told myself I would learn from my parents and never, ever get married by a holiday. I spoke too soon. Bryan and I had our 6th anniversary on July 25. If we ever leave Utah, I guess camping on our anniversary will be okay, but the mountains were pretty crowded this weekend.
We went up along the Mt. Nebo Scenic Byway. We were going to go in at Nephi, but realized we'd forgotten the boxes of plates, cups, utensils, toilet paper, etc., at home, so we had to go to Walmart in Payson and then head up to the hills. We followed to road to a little hike called The Grotto and hiked to a pretty waterfall. Then we kept going and turned off at a sign that said the road was closed but it looked open to us. Turns out, it was a road that led down to Santaquin. We went a ways down it and after passing many campers, we found a little stream and some big pine trees and a great camp site. We set up and found that Brady's sleeping bag had been leaked on by our big jug, so we put it on top of the tent to dry and drove up to Payson Lakes to fish.
We didn't catch any fish, but we ran into Teresa Tolutau and her family. I taught school with her in St. George and her son, Fotu, was one of my students. He's almost 13 now. Wow, I'm getting old! Anyway, it was really fun to see them. We left the lakes when it started to rain.
We returned to a wet sleeping bag and some wet pillows (we'd left the tent windows open). Luckily things dried out enough to light a fire and we figured out other sleeping arrangements. We made tin foil dinners with home grown potatoes and they were really good. We sang songs and read stories around the fire and then went to bed. We stayed warm and slept great.
When we got up in the morning we packed up really quickly and ate a quick breakfast and headed to SLC. Bryan's parents watched the kids for us (thank you!) and we went to the temple and did sealings. Then we went to dinner and saw the new Harry Potter movie. Wow! A date!
On Sunday we were lucky enough to be at my sister's house for her baby's blessing. It was neat to be there and fun to go to church with family.
We are exhausted. We have loads of laundry. We can't wait to go camping again this weekend. Hurray for the LILLYWHITE FAMILY CAMP OUT!
